TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught 17 years in the Music Education field in Massachusetts and New Jersey with students ages infant through adult. My current emphasis is working with elementary students and preschool children. I am thankful to have been an invited clinician in the music education field for conferences such as MMEA and Gordon College Symposiums. Three years was spent traveling to CT, NJ, within MA and NH as a teacher trainer in music classrooms. This led to 8 years as a student teacher advisor (MA) My main instrument is trumpet and is backed by 22 years of professional performances (US, Canada, Europe, South American, Mexico). These amazing experience have given way to creating music lesson plans, chorus activities including vocal warm ups, ice breakers, sight singing techniques and quality literature selection to help teachers in the music education field.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use Conversational Solfege for music literacy, paired with Kodaly and. For instrumental performance I combine Chris Azzara's Developing Musicianship through Improvisation with Orff and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Folk Dancing is from The Amidons and New England Dancing Masters series. Folk music is from Jill Trinka's series (Little Rooster, etc.) and First Steps in Music. Other teaching methods have influenced my classroom such as Teaching Kids to Sing by Kenneth Philips, Royal Conservatory approach to sight singing, First Steps in Music by John Feierabend. I especially like sequencing all activities carefully so they overlap and allow students to learn concepts in at least three different ways during each meeting.
