My teaching career started South Carolina in a kindergarten classroom where I worked as an assistant before moving to a cross-categorical special ed classroom for a year. I next moved to my own classroom in second grade where I spent the next three years. My last year in South Carolina was spent teaching first grade. Then, I moved across the country to California and taught fifth grade for a year. I followed this up with a year of subbing in various elementary classrooms. My next step was another military move to Michigan, where we grew our family with two little boys. I now spend my time teaching them and making resources to help other teachers. I have my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education with an elementary add on and my Masters of Education in Teaching, Learning, and Advocacy. I have held a teaching certificate in South Carolina and California. I have served and headed up on several in addition to working at the district level to develop curriculum and resources.
I'm a big believer in child-based learning. I feel children learn best when we get to know them and involve them in the learning process. I love picking themes that will interest a child and bring them further into the learning process. I like to combine play and hands on experience for a fun learning environment.
Yet to be added
I went to an elementary school that was primarily military children. It was a very transient population. For middle school, I went to an urban middle school in the "not so good" part of town. I am glad that my parents did not make snap judgements about the school like so many others did. It was a great experience. I went to a magnet high school geared towards academics. I followed all of this up by attending College of Charleston for my undergrad degree and graduate degree.
