I taught for 22 years at the elementary level system in Ontario, mostly students in the junior division, but did on occasion have classes in both the primary and senior divisions. Along with teaching I was involved for many years in counselling individuals, couples, and families. Otherwise my whole career was around working with people. Even in my retirement I am going into schools and tutoring. Can't give it up I guess! It's just in my DNA.
Largely my style was interactive and motivational. I found that inspiring students was my number one job. If I loved what I was doing and expressed that through my enthusiasm children would step up to the plate. Breaking things down to make it bite size morsels for consumption was also a mantra of mine. And I wasn't afraid to teach old school areas like printing or times-tables that somehow it seemed were going to be learned by osmosis. Oh yeah and I made sure we had fun learning!

Close to my retirement, I decided to write a Remembrance Day song that children at my school could use to express their respect and admiration for the sacrifices that our Veterans made and that our Armed Forces of today continue to make. I dedicated it to my Mother and Grandfather both of whom had their parts to play in the war. And now that I am retired, I have more time to get this wonderful Remembrance Day Song out there as another way for students and their communities to remember and salute our heroes!
