I have had experience teaching K-college through student teaching, full time teaching, being a graduate assistant, and volunteer work. The majority of my education experience is in art education and yearbook, although I love designing products outside of my expertise. I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art Education and my Masters of Art Education at the University of Georgia (go dawgs!). While in graduate school, I was a writing teaching assistant and helped teach undergraduate art education students. Since college I have taught art at the high school level for 11 years. I've taught in both public and private schools and have taught Introduction to Art, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, AP Art, and Yearbook. I'm incredibly lucky to be able to say I love what I do for a living.
I love hands on learning and student centered teaching. I very rarely lecture, unless I am introducing a project. Before every project I include a powerpoint with an artist exemplar and information about their assignment. Introduction day for an assignment is one of the few times that I am talking in front of the class, while my students take notes. After introducing a project via PowerPoint, I often complete a demonstration of the techniques needed for the project. Demonstrations may continue throughout the project depending on what they are working on. After "introduction day" my students are free to work at their own pace. I float the room and help them one on one. After projects are completed, I often have my students participate in individual and group critiques of their work.
