I am the author-illustrator of over 40 picture books used in elementary classrooms and by parents and homeschoolers across the USA and internationally. TPT members may be familiar with Measuring Penny, Fraction Action, or Crazy Like a Fox: A Simile Story among many other titles with math, language arts, science and other curriculum content. As my classroom resources are developed and posted, I would love to hear feedback from the experts (you!) My newest title is an informational book about animal tracks for PreK to Grade 1 called Step by Step.
My picture books introduce topics in an engaging visual way, often with multicultural children or animal characters. The illustrations may be comical or realistic. Several titles have been used by textbook companies or featured by Scholastic Book Fairs. For TPT, my goal is to create attractive materials that students will enjoy while they're learning something new or reviewing topics they've already been taught. Grades K – 2 is a typical range for my books but it varies and they are regularly used in lower and higher grades than I'd originally imagined.
My books have been honored by The National Science Teachers Association, the American Library Association, the Florida Book Awards, and the Parent's Choice Awards, and have received numerous starred reviews.
After earning a B.A. in Art, I signed my first publishing contract at the age of 25. I started with traditional media such as pen and ink, and since then have learned to illustrate and design my books using digital tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. A recent acquisition of an iPad Pro and pen has provided new creative options to explore. I have visited hundreds of elementary schools in my career and have always been inspired by what teachers make happen in classrooms every day. It's great fun to see the student projects, bulletin boards, posters, anchor charts, and other learning paraphernalia. And now with my Pinterest account I can see classroom activities anytime, which has been so motivating!
