TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started teaching in 2003. My experience is wide ranging, as are the Virginia communities I have served. While I taught younger grades, my primary experience is teaching 12th grade government, from team taught to AP Government and Politics. Materials sold in this store are for standard, honors, and AP GOPO.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in variety; trying to foster in my students the ability to succeed in the college environment. I primarily use primary and secondary source documents in my classroom in a variety of methods, including research projects, policy briefs, simulations, lectures, discussion groups, games, field trips, speakers, activities, and other activities. Please note that all AP Gov lessons are undergoing massive aligning to reflect the nature of the redesigned course. Materials will be re-released in August of 2019.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher who specializes in government and civics education. I was honored as a James Madison Fellow in 2016. I am a member of iCivics Education Network and I create content for iCivics.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a B.A. in political science from Wheeling Jesuit University and an M.Ed in education from George Mason University. I am a James Madison Fellow for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and anticipate completing my M.A. in Political Science from Virginia Tech in December 2019. I have also worked on election campaigns, as a contractor for the EPA in various capacities, and am an Election Officer in my community.
