I am a high school Geometry teacher. I have taught for 23 years total. I am proud to say I have taught at the high I graduated for the past 22 years.
My teaching style has completely changed since I first began teaching, and I credit my husband for helping me to make that change. My husband convinced me that I needed to video-tape my lessons and place them on the Internet for others to use as well as use it for a tutoring device for my students. Later I learned through a math conference how to incorporate the video-lessons into the classroom by using a "flipped model". The past couple of years, I have been "flipping" my classroom in which the students now watch my pre-designed flipcharts as their homework assignment, and they complete their homework during class while I can assist them. I also incorporate iPads in my classroom where the students use mastery-based learning materials to practice problems in order for them to understand geometry to its fullest.
I was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2010. During that same year, I competed for a nation-wide Promethean Board contest. And gratefully, I won. I chose as my prize the set of Active Board Voting devices to use with my students.
I have an undergraduate degree in Business with an option in Office Management. I completed my Master of Art in Teaching Math degree, and began teaching in 1991. I also have my Master +30 in addition to being National Board certified. I renewed my National Board certificate in 2012.
I have been married for 17 years, and I have 2 children. My son is in college, and my daughter is in middle school.
