I have taught middle school science since 1990. I have taught in all urban schools. Many of the schools that I have been in have been very diverse. The current school (I have been here for thirteen years) has students from every continent and we have multiple languages spoken in the same classroom! We also have students from multi-million dollar homes and students that are bused in from the inner city. Many of my inner city students have parents that have never been to our school due to a lack of transportation or just not even knowing how to get there.
I rely heavily on differentiated instruction and investigations. I differentiate for the learning styles as well as the ability of my students but I also know the value of investigations. Obviously, students cannot understand the investigations without a basis of scientific literacy so those lessons are greatly differentiated.

I love science, I love everything about it! I have three sons and they have developed a great love for nature as well. My husband indulges this and makes sure I see the native flora and fauna wherever we might be, he's a pretty awesome guy. I love my rescue puppies (2 of them ages 5 and 4 right now!) And I LOVE dystopian society fiction!
