Prior to accepting my current position as a Response to Intervention/Special Education Curriculum Consultant, I served as a school-based Speech and Language Pathologist for over 15 years. I've worked with students from preschool to adults with various communication disorders. My specialty is working with students with language delays and disorders. I served as the SLP on our district's diagnostic team for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. In my current role, I facilitate the RtI initiative throughout 7 local school districts. I work closely with SLPs in the evaluation of students suspected as having a Specific Learning Disability. I've attended the 5 day intensive training TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children) in North Carolina. This training focuses on the use of structured teaching techniques and visual supports for students with ASD. I've received intensive Phonics First (Orton-Gillingham based program) training and am a trainer of trainers for Michigan's Reading First LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional development.
