TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a special education teacher for the last 5 years and absolutely love being in the classroom! I have worked as a self-contained classroom teacher and an Interrelated teacher. I typically teach the younger grades (K-2nd), but have worked with all elementary grade levels at some time.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use a variety of strategies to meet the needs of my students. In my classroom, we engage in hands-on activities that connect to real life learning. As often as I can I incorporate novel activities (cooking, dancing, art, drama, etc) to sustain engagement, increase motivation, and extend experiential knowledge.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Virginia Wesleyan College where I earned a BA in English and Theater. I later completed a 2 year graduate level program at the University of Georgia to obtain my special education certification. I have also earned my Reading Endorsement at Georgia State University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am the mother of three wonderful children--who are basically all grown up now (26, 21, & 16). For many years, I was a stay at home mom (and loved it)! When my youngest started Kindergarten, I went back to work as a reference librarian, but soon felt the pull of one of my first loves--teaching. I felt drawn to the field of special education and count it as a joy and privilege to work with my special kiddos each day!
