TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for five years in an urban charter school with a high Hispanic population. I am not bilingual and so it is important that I make the curriculum make sense for my students. I have had both self-contained classes and departmentalized, where I have taught reading.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style does not consist of text books. I teach the standards using real world applications. I use novels such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Watsons go to Birmingham, etc. to teach reading standards, vocabulary and build background knowledge. I use my created math notebook to teach the math standards.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have received recognition from the state for my English Language Learner students' test scores, 2 years in a row.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my bachelor's degree in education from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. I received my master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Western Governor's University. I am working on my doctorate degree at Walden University

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My interests are in creating fun curriculum that makes sense to students and relates to their world to help them take education serious. After I finish my doctorate, I plan to continue my career in the education field writing curriculum.
