I've been teaching over 25 years in both Australia and Canada. I've taught students from grade 1 (briefly) to grade 7 and even did a stint in the educational faculty at UBC. My longest experience is with grade 2s and 3s.
I vary my style from having children involved in group activities to individual work from at their desk, to on the carpet. I like children learning through games as this allows time for those who take longer to grasp concepts while quicker learners are still motivated by a game. I like lots of visual stimulation which is why I love my SmartBoard! It's enjoyable when children have an input into classroom activities where possible and take charge such as classroom meetings which they run independently.
A principal at a school I was at once, liked the way I planned art units so much after looking through my planning, he got me to conduct a Pro D session for the rest of the staff.
