TEACHING EXPERIENCE

33 years experience teaching private piano lessons 17 years Church Youth Choir director 16 years as a public school music teacher 2 years Music Therapy work with Alzheimers patients.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that many children do not sing enough at home and are self-conscious about their voices. So we do a lot of singing and movement. I incorporate Orff instruments and art into my lessons as well. I enjoy teaching music history to older students and then have them build on that to write their own music. I feel it is very important for children to hear the music from other cultures to open a door of understanding. I also have a strong belief that children need to know folk songs, especially those from their state, so that they have a link to their own heritage. Mostly, I want to develop children who love the arts.
