I have been teaching 22 years in public school music--grades Pre-K through grade 7. Most of my teaching career has been grades K-5, but this year I will be teaching (again) Pre-K-4. I also taught private piano lessons and group piano lessons in my studio in my home for over 40 years. Since the year 2000, I have been composing music--for solo piano and for my students at school.
I love to focus on a "Theme" in my teaching: "Patriotic music", "Rock and Roll", "Spirituals for Black History Month, etc. I like to use a variety of instruments, scarves, parachutes, etc. in my lesson plans not only to add variety, but also interest and movement for the students.
Yet to be added
I received both a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Central Arkansas. Prior to going to college I attended a Summer Session for students going into the music field at the St. Louis Institute of Music (which later merged with one of the local colleges.)
I am married, have three grown children, and ten grandchildren. I love to write music and have recorded two CD's and am working on the third. In addition to music, my second passion is cooking and cookbooks. I have written two "Family Heritage" cookbooks with our family recipes from my great-grandmother to the present. I also have a website for my music: www.musicbymaribeth.com. Check it out!
