My entire life I have been blessed to be surrounded by individuals with special needs, starting with my own twin brother. This led me to pursue a degree in special education. I have taught PreK - 5th grade in a self-contained/multi-needs classroom. Prior to that, I taught grades 6 - 8 resource and inclusion. I have experience in high school settings and volunteered in a prison working with adults to help them get their GEDs. For years, I also was a violin teacher. =}
I am a very hands-on learner and try to implement that into my teaching. I love the look of excitement on my students' faces when they are exploring and discover something new and tangible! I feel we learn best by doing, and as a teacher, I learn more from my students when I can see them explore! I have co-taught every single year of my career thus far, and the experience has been great (both in inclusion and self-contained)! I believe our students are the real teachers! =}
Getting to teach my students! =}
I have my degree in special education as a Learning Behavior Specialist and am pursuing my ESL Endorsement. I took additional classes in psychology as well.
Life is wonderful being married to the best man in the universe, who supports and encourages me no matter what, and being a mommy to my amazing little boy! Our big, goofy dog, Kipper, keeps us quite busy! In the minute or two I have of "down time," you can usually find me with my family or playing music!
