I have 10 years of experience teaching history and the social sciences in a variety of classrooms. My BS is in Secondary Education and Social Science, and I have a MEd with Special Education Certification. I have been teaching in diverse classrooms since my first year of teaching: regular, honors and special education. I have taught U.S., World, and African American Histories; Geography; Economics; American Government/Civics; English 9/10; Senior Seminar. I have also served as a Sped Case Manager while full-time teaching, Special Education Coordinator, and Dean of Academics throughout my professional career.
My greatest joy is when I am fulfilling my passion, which is teaching young adults about life and providing them opportunities they were previously cheated out of. History is my vehicle to reach at-risk students and hopefully show them they have the power to change their lives through education. I love working in alternative education and using a project-based learning model. I enjoy the challenge of thinking outside the box, developing creative and innovative lessons, activities and materials. I am a strong believer in trial and error and ultimately, letting my students drive my curriculum and instruction.
