I have been working as an educator for the past 30 years. The first 12 years of my career were spent teaching kindergarten and first grade. Working with five and six years old was a joy and I loved every minute of it! For the past 17 years, I have been an elementary school counselor. I work with students from kindergarten to 6th grade as I facilitate class presentations, support groups, individual counseling sessions, and whole-school assemblies and projects.
Everything I do centers around building positive relationships with my students. I firmly believe that students learn more from a teacher they love and trust. Since much of my content area includes character education and prevention, I often use modeling and role-play as teaching tools. I enjoy using music to help students remember basic concepts and phrases for positive self talk.
