Hi there! Thanks for checking out my profile! I am an English teacher-turned-ELA department chairperson with 16+ years of classroom experience at the secondary level. In addition to my leadership experience in education, I am a New York State Certified Cheerleading Official and a published freelance journalist. My work is unique in that it affords me the opportunity of working with numerous constituencies: students, parents, teachers, administrative colleagues, athletes, coaches and adult learners.


My personal teaching experience has run the gamut. I began my career in a parochial high school with large lecture-style classes before moving to a more student-centered classroom in a suburban public school. I have experience teaching literature using the whole-class novel approach, variations of a workshop approach (including the use of Literature Circles and Independent Reading and Choice-Based Writing projects), and alternative education. In my role as an ELA chairperson, I am blessed with the opportunity to observe many talented teachers, from whom I’ve learned a great deal about various approaches to teaching reading and writing with middle and high school students. As I live and work in New York State, I connect each of my ELA lessons to CCSS as well as NYS “Next Gen” Learning Standards.


In my career I’ve received numerous awards and accolades; I’ve been published both in newspapers, online periodicals, blogs and even NCTE Classroom Notes Plus. I’ve also presented at various educational workshops, including the Long Island Connected Educators Summit, and I’ve facilitated various professional development workshops for teachers. For the last two years I served as Education Chairperson of the New York State Cheerleading Judges Association, in which I assisted in designing training materials and led training workshops for cheerleading judges all across the State.


I have a BA in English Textual Studies/English Education from Syracuse University, a MS in Teaching Literacy 5-12 from St. John’s University, and an Administrative Certificate from SUNY Stony Brook. I am currently completing coursework to receive my Doctor of Education degree from St. John’s University. My research interests include curriculum design, instructional approaches to teaching literature and writing, alternative education, educational technology, and working with students in need of confidence and motivation.


I truly enjoy designing instructional materials for all capacity of my work. I’m just getting started with tPt, and I’m looking forward to connecting with you!
