TEACHING EXPERIENCE

With stops along my 21-year educational career path as a classroom teacher and a K-5 math instructional coach, I am now living my dream as a K-5 math interventionist!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Having taught grades 3-5 for most of my career, primary (K-2) math is now a passion. I look for ways to prevent the gaps I saw in my 3-5 students. I try to create activities and resources that are engaging, but contain sound math. Multiple representations and activities that follow the CRA (concrete-->representational-->abstract) sequence of instruction are my specialty. I also try to make products that are easy for teachers to put together and implement in their classrooms.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I keep busy presenting at both the state and national level: NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition, 2014; NCTM Regional Conference, Baltimore, 2013; Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT), 2013-2015; Illinois ASCD PreK-K Conference Featured Speaker, 2015; SDE Singapore Math Conference, 2014

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

With an accounting information systems background, teaching is my second career, so I look at math through a real-world lens. I am a life-long learning and continue my education through online book studies, blogging, reading, and engaging with other educators around the world on Twitter.

Let's get social! Visit my blog for K-5 math tips and freebies you can use tomorrow in your classroom. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter.
