I have been a math coach for 6 years and I am fortunate to work with students and teachers at every elementary grade level. An educator for 15 years, I still have fun teaching and learning every day. Not only do I get to learn from my students, but from other teachers too. We should all have more experience in the classrooms of our co-workers! :)
I try to give as little information as necessary, and lead students to make their own connections through questioning. Ideally, I want to FIND or CREATE a reason for them to want or need to solve a problem, and then figure out how to solve it with as little interference from me as possible. I focus on the relationships in math. I want my students to develop number sense and reasoning and I believe we will get there if we focus on the BIG IDEAS... the most useful ways to take numbers apart and put them back together in different ways to suit our purposes at the time. And hopefully have a little fun doing it!
The honor of teaching future generations?? I finished third in a race once? And I estimated the number of jellybeans in the jar in sixth grade!

I am ALL ABOUT THE MATH, but I still love writing and vocabulary! I am an avid Scrabble player and I have written a YA fiction novel. I have created all of my own teaching resources over the years and I can't seem to stop! Together, my husband and I have five children (and five jobs). Occasionally we eat and sleep. But not tonight.
