I have taught 32 years. I have taught in three states: Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina. I taught 6th grade math for 28 1/2 years, 5th grade math for 3 years, and 4th grade (everything) for 1 1/2 years. I am now the Math Interventionist in an Elementary school serving 3rd through 5th graders.
I used a lot of hands-on activities. My students had shoulder partners. I loved having open discussions during my math classes.
I have been teacher of the year at my school. Also I was NCCTM Outstanding Secondary Teacher in 2014 for my district.
I graduated from University of Central Florida with a Elementary Degree. I took the Praxis test and had 6-9 math added to my certificate. I have worked over several summers in a math program at Appalachian State University.
I have been married for over 35 1/2 years to Richard. We have three lovely children. Our son is married and gave us our first grandchild. She is a true delight. He graduated in Business and Finance from Appalachian State and got his Master of Divinity. His wife graduated with a Music Education degree from App. Our middle daughter graduated with a BSN in Nursing from Appalachian State. Our youngest daughter graduated from UNC Charlotte in Criminal Justice and Sociology. We are blessed! We are active in our church and in our Sunday school class.
