TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My career began as a fifth grade math and science teacher. I went to school to become an elementary teacher, and had never thought math would become my focus (I loved teaching reading and writing) but it did! Those first few years I learned so much about standards and assessment and the importance of a solid foundation in basics, but also a solid foundation in thinking critically about mathematics and true problem solving. This led me back to where I was meant to be - elementary school. For eight years, I have worked with students in PK-4 and coached teachers on improving mathematics instruction. I LOVE what I do and am so happy to share!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Balance is key! Basics are important, but students also need lots of experiences in solving challenging and open-ended tasks. My philosophy is simple - teachers who know their students and their content well are the best equipped to make decisions about their instruction. No curriculum can tell you what to teach to all students. I like having options, and sharing options, with my teachers so they can make informed decisions and differentiate for the learners in their classes.
