ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am the Director of Bands, Guitar Teacher, Jazz Band Director, and Assistant Director of Technology for a relatively small school district in North Texas. I also maintained a private lesson studio, and managed a music store for a few years. I also maintain a professional blog (www.stidhammusic.com) that is focused on music education. My philosophy is if you are going to teach well, you must be thoughtful and purposeful about it. I write on education, music, technology, productivity, social media, and, on occasion, stuff that doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories. I also occasionally write about the resources I am discovering. My goal is to create insightful, relevant content that you can put to work in your personal and professional life. If you are an educator of any kind—or aspire to be—then my blog is for you. I have been surrounded by music my entire life. I began learning piano from my mother and grandmother around age 5 and guitar seriously studying guitar around age 9. I continued studying guitar, as well as various other string instruments and various brass instruments all the way through high school. I attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where I received my BA in Music specializing in Classical Guitar. I’m currently pursuing my Masters of Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. In addition to teaching in the public schools, I’ve maintained a private lessons studio as time has allowed I have been married to my wife, Jennifer, for nearly eight years. We have a beautiful daughter, two demented dogs. In my free time, I enjoy playing my guitar, writing, reading, golfing, and slowly working on restoring my grandfather’s 1969 GMC 3/4 ton pickup.
