TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a graduate of Bangor University, having obtained a first-class Bachelor of Music with Honours degree. I was awarded the Robert Pascall Award by the Bangor University School of Music for my edition of Philippe Basiron’s Missa de Franza, which was regarded as ‘reaching a professional standard’ and ‘readily publishable’ by Professor Christian Leitmeir, Associate Professor of Music at Magdalen College, Oxford. It has subsequently been published. During this time, I also became a piano and music theory teacher and completed an ABRSM Diploma in Instrumental Teaching. This helped me to develop many effective strategies for helping my students to achieve the highest possible standards in preparation for their ABRSM piano performance and music theory exams. Prior to attending Bangor University, I was the accompanist and co-musical director of the Maletones Choir, Wales. This gave me plenty of experience in leading a choir as I attended weekly rehearsals to accompany and rehearse with the choir in preparation for concerts. I have also gained experience in planning and organising shows and musical productions as I was the musical director of the New Start Theatre Company, Wrexham. This involved organising and producing professional quality compilation shows within a short time limit, including Those Good Olde Days, A Handful of Songs, We’ll Keep a Welcome and A Dickens of a Christmas. Since moving to London, I have also gained experience as a music leader for Funky Monkey Keyboards amd KeyNotes Music. This involved leading keyboard and music theory group sessions of up to 8 children aged 5 – 11. I am also a recent graduate of the University of Greenwich where I gained a PGCE in Primary Education. As a passionate specialist in music, I chose to concentrate on how music can benefit children with ASD during my Professional Enhancement module. I centred my research on the ‘triad of impairments’ and visited Elmhurst Primary School to observe how the specialist music teacher used music to develop the children’s interpersonal skills. From this, I published an academic poster entitled 'How can Music Benefit Children with Autism?' I am currently completing my NQT year in a year 3 classroom based in London.
