D.B. McCowan, P.Eng. is currently teaching Technological Design at the Toronto District School Board. Previous industry experience includes Genesis Microchip and the Canadian Gas Association.
My pedagogy for senior high school is largely based on the growth of Essential Skills, particularly Lifelong Learning and Thinking Skills. I invite senior high school teachers to engage teams of students in the "Thomas Telford Engineering Challenge" in connection with the Scarborough Exhibition of the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry. (http://mccowan.org/scots_of_scarborough.htm). The learning activities that I will be making available are STEAM'D -- Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, Diversity. A significant portion of the proceeds from the sale of these McCowan learning materials on TPT will be donated to offset the cost of the Scarborough Exhibition of the Tapestry.
I am Past Chair, Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Education Committee. I have taken groups of students to PEO's Engineering Education Conferences four times -- where they were always the "talk of the town"! For one of these conferences, students designed a substantial portion of the Conference.
