Over the past eighteen years, I have had the unique opportunity to teach and lead in both traditional and non-traditional settings. In addition to teaching at every level (elementary, middle, and high school), I have been a mathematics education research coordinator, K-12 district mathematics supervisor, math/science academic coach, and adjunct professor.
I believe in blended learning - creating opportunities for students based on their interests, learning preferences, and individual personalities.
I received the Education Service Award for Professional Development from the DeSoto Independent School District (2013).
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. I have taught mathematics on every grade level, as well as elementary reading, social studies and science. I am certified by the state of Texas to teach any subject in elementary and middle school, and mathematics to students in grades 1 through 12.
I have 7 years of K-6 teaching experience, and 6 years of secondary (7-12) teaching experience . While teaching 5th grade, I taught all subject areas. I spent 1 year as a K-12 mathematics tutor for Sylvan Learning Center. During my tenure as a K-12 Mathematics Supervisor, I wrote curriculum and provided monthly workshops for approximately 120 K-12 teachers and administrators. As a Mathematics Research Coordinator, I authored standards- and research-based mathematics assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards of Mathematics (CCSS-M), the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), as well as the Virginia Standards of Learning (VSOL). I have written STEM curricula for several school districts, and education guides for the Dallas Cowboys organization, the State Fair of Texas, and the Bureau of Education Research. As an independent education specialist and national consultant, I have authored lesson plans with and for math teachers at all grade levels.
