TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began my teaching career with a year-long student teaching internship in a 6th grade self-contained classroom in State College Area School District. Immediately after graduating from Penn State University I was hired to teach 4th grade Language Arts in an intermediate school setting. I am entering my fourth year of teaching Language Arts for the 2013-2014 school year.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My Language Arts instructional approaches are based around Balanced Literacy. Each day's lessons consist of an interactive read aloud, shared reading, guided reading, shared writing, and writer's workshop. My lessons cater to differentiation, multiple intelligences, and cooperative learning. Lucy Calkins' Writer's Workshop guides my methods for teaching writing. Everything I teach and create meets Common Core Standards.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Penn State University (Main Campus) in May 2010. In 2011 I began pursuing my Master's Degree in Literacy Education at Penn State University (Harrisburg).

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My ultimate goal as a teacher is to ignite passion in my students. I want my students to discover all that reading and writing has to offer and pursue language with a desire instead of an obligation. I work to make learning a fun learning experience in which the relevancy is always obvious.
