I have been a qualified teacher for 4 years, but have been teaching informally for 9. I worked for one of the biggest science centres in Canada for 2.5 years working specifically on researching, developing and delivering science programs to children from grades K-12. I have personally developed 14 hour long school programs for these grade levels, most with equipment you can find in your own classroom! My second teachable is Vocal Music, I have been privately teaching lessons for 9 years and 4 years ago founded my own theatre company that raises money for charity. I completed an LTO in 2012 in Vocal Music for grade 9 - 11.
My teaching style is very relaxed, but at the same time I do ask a lot from my students. I believe that pushing them to their full potential is the best way to prepare them for post-secondary schooling and their career in the future. I consistently ensure that I am teaching to all learning types by providing notes, examples, diagrams and well as explaining the task being given.
This past year I have received the Young Professional Association of Sudbury's - Young Female Professional of the Year Award (2012)
Highschool Sudbury Secondary School (9-12+) - Vocal/Dance Major University Laurentian University (2004-2008) - B.A. Hons in Music (minor in Geology) Teacher's College Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia - B.Ed. Intermediate/Senior - Music and Science
I am the founder and current Artistic Director of UP Theatre. UP Theatre is Sudbury's only Not-For-Profit Musical Theatre Company to support local causes. The company's Founder and Artistic Director Megan Kolppanen, who was born, raised and educated in Northern Ontario, founded UP Theatre in 2010 to merge her love of Musical Theatre and volunteering in her local community. With each production, UP Theatre pioneers new original productions, gives its participants a chance to be involved in every aspect of the show, and donates proceeds to great causes in Sudbury.
