I began teaching special education in 2013 in Pleasantville, IA. During my first year, I taught middle school students and although I enjoyed working with students of that age, I knew it wasn't exactly what I had envisioned for myself. At the end of my first year, an elementary special education position opened up in the same district I was working for. I knew that elementary was the place for me. The same day the job posted, I talked to my administrators about the switching positions and the rest is history! I truly love my job! I am looking forward to many more years working in this wonderful small school!
I teach students with special needs and I have found that if I can give them real life examples and applications, they are more interested in the lesson and they take away more. I love to create activities that include real life examples. I also modify activities that they do in their general education classroom, whether this be changing the wording, simplifying reading levels, or simply remaking materials to give them more work space or using a larger size font.
I received my bachelors degree from Iowa State University in 2013 and have been teaching special education ever since!
