I would say that my teaching style has many faces but regardless of the class concentration these are my ultimate goals: -promoting a safe classroom environment for student growth -connecting the text with the "real-world" in order to promote tolerant, culturally relevant students -encouraging critical thinking in an outside-the-box way I put a large emphasis on writing but try to diversify as much as possible--persuasive essays and speeches, reader response narrative, journaling, short response with an informal persuasive element to promote critical thinking, creative writring, etc. I teach the required, traditional high school canon but also incorporate YAL, graphic novels, comic books, modern plays, non-fiction, and utilize the silver screen when apporopriate. I teach American and British Literature with a lot of historical background and chronologically. Overall, I have the belief that if you love what you teach and do it genuinely the students will respond postively and hopefully remember what you have impressed upon them.

I have coached Varsity Cheerleading for 6 years. I have a love for travel and have been all over the world. I believe that it has made me a better educator on many levels. I am so fortunate to have found a career that allows me to do two of the things I love most--teach and travel.
