As an educator, I see myself as one who guides students toward intellectual and emotional growth in the context of a supportive community of learners. I seek to thoughtfully create learning opportunities for all students that impart fundamental knowledge, as well as facilitate original and innovative thinking. My goal is to support student growth and cultivate skills and understanding, as they become fully integrated members of our community. Although fundamental knowledge of musical elements is critical to continued growth, the initial emphasis should not only be on the mechanical and technical, but on the sheer enjoyment of music as well. One of my goals as a music teacher is to stimulate a love for learning and music that will nurture a desire for lifelong musical study and appreciation.

I have worked successfully with students and been able to connect with them by relating music instruction to other academic areas, ultimately influencing their overall personal and academic success. Breaking down concepts into manageable tasks for my students has allowed me to enhance the learning process in my classroom, enabling my students to gain the self-confidence necessary to succeed and grow on their own. Additionally, by implementing technology in the classroom I have encouraged my students to become fully engaged in the process and to become active rather than passive participants in their learning experience. By developing my own targeted curricula, I have succeeded with students of all ages and proficiencies while coaching them to excel in performance at regional and state levels.
