Working in the schools has always been a passion of mine. I have experience working with children ages PreK-12th and have worked with low-income children and families for over five years. I began college as an elementary education major with a focus in math education. During my second year of school, I found myself working for an after school program with low-income, "at-risk" middle school students. It was this experience that led me to what you may call a "tipping point," where I found myself hooked on learning, the classroom, and the challenges we face in our education system today. During my time with the after school program I worked in three different schools with three different populations. Since then I have gained experience working with special populations of children who have autism, Downs syndrome, Fragile X, ADD/ADHD, and a variety of other disabilities. I currently work in two urban schools where resources are limited and obstacles are abundant. Each of these adventures has shaped me into the professional I am today. I am looking forward to participating in the TPT community where my therapy "toolbox" can expand by receiving and sharing learning strategies from classrooms and therapy rooms around the globe.
I am a strong advocate for a collaborative classroom/workplace. I have personally experienced the greatest amount of growth when working with other professionals and find that students benefit most when they are surrounded by a team of professionals working together to help them succeed.
