I taught in an independent school in Port Elizabeth, South Africa for 16 years prior to the birth of my daughter. While my daughter was young I was self-employed as a resource developer creating thematic units, worksheets, posters and games for teachers using the wealth of knowledge and materials I developed in my years of teaching and giving private maths tuition to grade 1 to 7 children. When my daughter was in second grade I went back to full time teaching in a Grade 1 classroom. I taught Grade 1 for almost 4 years. I am now teaching Visual Art to children from Grades 1 to 7, as well as Grade 6 Social Science and Life Skills to Grade 4. Not only do I have experience in the classroom, I have also run teacher training sessions for our local Teachers' Centre in assisting teachers with planning effectively for teaching English as an Additional Language. I have written a series of isiXhosa workbooks for teaching isiXhosa to pupils from Grades 3-7. These workbooks are widely used by schools in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape of South Africa.
I believe in a creative approach to teaching young learners and like to integrate subjects so that learning becomes exciting and meaningful. As far as possible I try to include a variety of learning styles in my lessons and activities and I love using discussion and creative thinking as a basis for communication and learning with children.

I studied a Bachelor of Primary Education degree at the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
I love to read, paint and do a number of crafts. I am passionate about teaching and can frequently be found browsing the web (an addiction of mine!) searching for new and exciting ideas and advances in education and education philosophy.
