I started as a substitute teacher, K-12, for a little more than three years. After that, I got a position teaching sixth grade at Mission Valley Elementary in Fremont, California. I have now taught sixth grade for thirteen years. For four consecutive years, I taught a 5th/6th combination class which gave me some excellent organizational and management skills.
I love to use humor, technology, learning games, group work, team talk, and some traditional lecture and note-taking to keep my students engage. I try to foster an environment of respect in my classroom where every student feels comfortable and validated and like they are almost at their second home when they are at school.
I have been nominated by two different principals for teacher of the year in my district. During the 13-14 school year, I was lucky enough to be honored as one of the top 6 nominees of teacher of the year in our district of more than thirty schools. It was a tremendous honor!
I received my Bachelors of Arts in British and American Literature from California State University at Hayward (now CSUEB) with a minor in Music. I received my multiple-subject teaching credential from National University in Cupertino California with single subject competencies in English and Music.
