TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught vocal music and general music education since 2002. For seven years I taught grades 5-12 vocal music and experienced much success at the local and state level with my performing groups. Since 2010 I have taught vocal music in a 5/6 grade center. I have 500 students come through my room in any given year. They learn correct vocal technique and tone production, piano keyboard skills, music reading (traditional and solfege), and a wide variety of cultural and historical music. Additionally, I was the artistic director for the local auditioned children's choir for three years. During that time, my students performed at many venues, including a special performance with other children's choirs at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. Check out my classroom website. http://tinyurl.com/santafemusicclass

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach first by creating relationships and connecting with my students. Secondly, I believe expectations should be high and a standard of excellence can be met by all students. Students in my class are always expected to be respectful and responsible. I have clear rules for producing good singing tone. I use a lot of Kagan Cooperative Learning structures. My students enjoy my class and are proud of their accomplishments.
