I have taught vocal music and general music education since 2002. For seven years I taught grades 5-12 vocal music and experienced much success at the local and state level with my performing groups. Since 2010 I have taught vocal music in a 5/6 grade center. I have 500 students come through my room in any given year. They learn correct vocal technique and tone production, piano keyboard skills, music reading (traditional and solfege), and a wide variety of cultural and historical music. Additionally, I was the artistic director for the local auditioned children's choir for three years. During that time, my students performed at many venues, including a special performance with other children's choirs at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. I teach first by creating relationships and connecting with my students. Secondly, I believe expectations should be high and a standard of excellence can be met by all students. Students in my class are always expected to be respectful and responsible. I have clear rules for producing good singing tone. I use a lot of Kagan Cooperative Learning structures. My students enjoy my class and are proud of their accomplishments.
Superior ratings for middle and high school level choirs at local and state festivals.
I graduated from a liberal arts college with my BA in Music Education.
