I have taught in SC and TN, in poor schools and affluent schools, public schools and private schools, and even elementary and middle schools. I also lead professional development workshops for colleagues on such topics as differentiated instruction, civic education, authentic assessment, and learning-centered schools. Recently, I spent two years as an administrator at the Board of Education. During this time, I coached teachers on instructional practice and classroom management. I also deployed 200+ cameras throughout our district and led professional development on reflective practice and the value of using cameras in the classroom. I have now returned to the classroom as a Master Teacher, teaching 7th grade honors language arts and reading. I'm working to revise some stellar lessons to incorporate elements of Common Core, especially text-based questions and higher-order thinking components. I am working on putting together some new material to showcase what I've learned in the field thus far.
My preference is to act as a facilitator while students discover the world around them through hands-on experiences, self-reflection, research, or group work. I also believe in integrating different subjects for authentic learning experiences and using social networks and technology integration to challenge students to reach for the next level of mastery.
I have been nominated for Teacher of the Year several times, but my greatest honor was being named Teacher Mentor by Scholastic.com in 2004. Many of my units are posted online on the site, but some were posted incompletely. There are lessons in my store which complete the units posted here under the same topics. My new goal is to add pieces to my store that upgrade those older lessons to add elements of Common Core.

I am a creative writer who has mastered the writing of lesson plans. I have compiled more plans than I can post here, but I do take requests. Feel free to email me if you can't find what you're looking for, and I'll do my best to help. If I don't have time to write something, then I will at least point you in the right direction to something that can help you on the web. Thanks!
