Math Coach, Curriculum Specialist and teacher for 13 years in both public and private schools. I write curriculum and supplements, design assessments, aligned curriculum to meet the Common Core standards and orchestra and design enrichment programs to meet the needs of all of our math students. I create supplements to fill the holes of the purchased, set curriculum in schools so students have more practice with concepts they need more time with, extensions for concepts they are ready to dig deeper into and create formative and summative assessments to best monitor and set learning goals.
I am balanced, thoughtful and structured. While the students are held to high expectations, I like to guide them through learning mathematics in a purposeful, productive and engaging way. After coaching math in different school environments with many different learning styles, I see the mathematical practices as important as the standards themselves. However, explicit and thoughtful practice needs to go hand in hand with constructing ideas, questioning, wondering and exploration of concepts. The most valuable tools I use as a teacher are listening and questioning.
