My name is Arthur and I am a teacher. I’ve had a number of jobs throughout the years, soldier, waiter, financial planner, and law school dropout… But I decided to become a teacher when I realized that my passions for history and politics (yes really) were something that was needed in society. If you are reading this, you are undoubtedly a teacher too. You chose social studies as your credential focus because it made sense to you and you consider yourself well-versed in its various nuances. You also undoubtedly know that teachers don’t get paid very well. Especially social studies teachers. This is why I chose the moniker “Minimum Wage Sage”. Like you, I have a great font of knowledge in a number of eccentric and sometimes complementary (sometimes not) fields. We social studies teachers know little bit about everything. What is our award for eternal toil and constant vigilance on every current event and obscure historical fact that becomes part of the public consciousness? A slightly lower pay than math teachers. And a little bit less job security. Despite this we worked very diligently for our students. We craft lesson plans and stay informed. We conduct research and we write papers that are almost as good as papers produced by English teachers.
