My mission for my students is to instill collaborative learning through problem solving. My students are encouraged to discuss and challenge each others ideas (mine as well) until a conclusion is agreed upon by all with step-by-step mathematical evidence. Through debate more than one process is inevitably shared. The problem solving process is a major staple in my classroom. Students discover many routes when reaching conclusions to different problem scenarios by relying on past concepts or incorporating new concepts. As a result students see connections between mathematical concepts and gain a deeper understanding of math.
