I love everything about learning and teaching language! I've worked in bilingual education since 2003 and have taught children in bilingual (Spanish-English), dual language, English-only traditional, and ESOL elementary classrooms. I love to share resources and ideas, which has led me into instructional coaching during recent years. I believe that every child in every classroom can succeed and their world will be even grander if we can teach them to be multilingual, multiliterate, and multicultural!
I teach to insure that all children have the foundational knowledge and skills to think critically in literacy and math by activating background knowledge and scaffolding for understanding. My teaching taps into children's learning styles through use of visuals, movements, songs, and conversation. I highly believe in teacher modeling and thinking aloud so that children have a scholarly "role model", and I love to record this thinking on anchor charts so that the classroom walls truly come alive with learning!
