TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over the past 11 years I've had a number of wonderful teaching experiences, including three years in Grade 3/4 at a fairly new Catholic primary school, some time teaching English to teenagers and adults, and five years in Grade 6 at a government school in Melbourne's tough outer west. During this time, I've had the pleasure of continually learning through holding a variety of leadership positions, experiencing team teaching and multi-age classrooms, and constantly pushing myself to further develop my understanding of teaching and learning developments. This past year I have been on leave from full-time teaching - mainly due to health reasons - and have been enjoying sharing my love for education and reading through my work as a youth librarian. I have decided to extend my break for a further 12 months (beginning January 2015) but have continued to accept the occasional day of casual relief teaching just to keep my finger in the pie!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Very focused on using student data to drive my planning and teaching - no point in teaching what they already know!! I tend to use hands-on, open, real-life experiences to engage and motivate students. Peer tutoring plays a large role in my classroom, as does the use of ICT and student-negotiated curriculum. Plus I'm often found performing a random jig in the middle of a lesson. Just to keep them alert...
