Going into my 4th year of teaching, it is easy to say I have learned an insane amount since my first year. Moving grade levels has challenged me to stay on my toes and "up my game". I spent one year in first grade, followed by two years in sixth. My heart has always been with younger students, and that led to me moving down to fourth grade this year!
When I was a student, I struggled with test-taking and math. As a teacher, I use that to my benefit by creating tools and strategies to help students avoid the problems I faced. In my classroom, I try to keep things balanced between projects, independent studies (yes, even in fourth!), and your typical worksheet/textbook practice so my kiddos are ready for testing towards the end of the year.
My first year of teaching, I was awarded "Most Outstanding First Year Teacher" in the four counties around my area. It came as a complete shock, but one that I will never forget and hold close to my heart.
I graduated from Shippensburg University in 2011 with my Bachelors in Education. I am currently working on my Masters in Education, and my Masters in Literacy.
