I have worked as a para educator in special and gifted education in grades K-6, a lead elementary teacher in a mixed-age non-profit elementary school, a mixed-age preschool teacher, a pre-k teacher, and am now homeschooling my toddler.
I believe in educating the whole child. My teaching approach is based on meeting the needs and incorporating the interests of individual children. I believe in creating life-long, highly motivated self-learners through the use of choice, praise, and the right reinforcers.
During the two years I worked as a lead elementary teacher, my classroom received the highest parent approval ratings in the school's fifteen year history and was the only classroom in which every student was meeting or exceeding their academic goals.
I studied English and secondary education at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia for three years and graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas with a Bachelors of Arts in English.
