TEACHING EXPERIENCE

3rd year special educator teaching a multi-grade level elementary classroom in a therapeutic school for kiddos with emotional and behavioral disorders.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching philosophy operates under three principles: 1.) "Kids do well if they can" (Dr. Ross Greene). And if they can't, it is our job to teach them the skills they need to do well. Those skills may be social skills, emotional regulation skills and academic skills (and everything in between!) 2.) The power of YET. Promoting a growth mindset in the classroom empowers children, which is imperative in fostering self-esteem and motivation in all children and even more challenging for kiddos with emotional and behavioral disorders and/ or learning disabilities or challenges. 3.) "It is vital that when educating our children's brains that we do not neglect to educate their hearts" (The Dalai Lama). Building meaningful, empathetic relationships with all students, particularly the most challenging ones, is the key to any growth, success and meaningful, sustainable changes.
