TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began working in education in 2006 when I started subbing while earning my teaching certificate. I've taught every possible subject in K-12, though middle school ELA will always have my heart. I currently teach 8th grade ELA at a low-income school district in suburban Chicago. I love my students and work with the most amazing staff and administration who inspire me every day. There is no love like #nmsalove for me!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe students learn best when they are given choice and freedom to explore as naturally inquisitive learners. I love a workshop setting as well as using centers for small group instruction. Because many of my students are struggling readers and writers, formative assessment is crucial for informing my instruction. I formally assess my students at least 3 times per week so I can use that data to drive the following week's work.
