I'm an all-day kindergarten teacher and my daily goal is to ENGAGE CHILDREN THROUGH IMAGINATION! I teach K-2 English Language Learners after school twice a week, in the summer and daily in my classroom. I also mentor future teachers for the summer ELD program. I also have experience in third grade. I have a B.A. in Creative Writing, B.A. in Social Work, MSW and M.Ed. with an endorsement in reading and minor in African American Studies. Each day has a new learning experience for me as I incorporate my social work background in working with kiddos as a teacher. No lesson would be complete without a craft and kindergarten-friendly assessments for teachers and for enhancing and supporting the school-home connection! These are my forte' and a huge part of what I do and offer at my school and here at TPT. I'm committed to what I do and what I do is never done. Technology is a huge part of my daily teaching and I'm incorporating more and more of it daily. I also am the "games," "ELD," and "common core assessment and rubrics," go-to teacher for kindergarten at my school. I want to create high quality products that ENGAGE and MOTIVATE children through imagination! I'm reminded of something that someone told me once. It has stuck with me and is part of who makes me, me. I hope to teach less, and model more. So, please feel free to wander and let your imagination take hold.
I believe meaningful learning cannot take place until positive relationships are built, fostered and encouraged. The longer I'm in the classroom, the more I believe teaching is a social field that extends beyond the realm of academics. In this way, I hope to create and share culturally sensitive materials that meet students where they are in the learning process through differentiation and providing a framework that engages and pushes students to strive for excellence. These skills include, but are not limited to collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving skills aligned with the constructivist approach. Please also keep in mind that these materials are created, but still must be adapted to fit your classroom needs. One size does not fit all!

I love to write! I have written articles under an alias for Livestrong Fitness, Nutrition and Parenting. I've also written for The Bump, Ehow, Ehow Business and Finance, Ehow Fitness-related articles and other sites writing about culture. In addition to writing technical articles, I love to write stories, which you will continue to find throughout my teaching materials! I'm passionate about cultural sensitivity - ethnically, geographically and economically. Much of the artwork in my products are drawn and created by me as well. I also love to sew and am a photographer---need lots of hobbies to keep me busy!
