Mary Lou Baranowski currently teaches physical education at Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary in the San Diego Unified School District, where she also serves on the elementary physical education leadership team. Baranowski has taught physical education for 32 years, and was an adjunct professor at SDSU. She has earned National Board Certification in physical education, and is the 2013 National Elementary PE teacher of the year from the Southwest district. In addition to teaching, Baranowski writes curriculum for SPARK (Sports, Physical Activity and Recreation for Kids) physical education. Along with her husband, Roger Drews, Baranowski co-produces road races and multi-sport events. Baranowski competed in cross-country and track in college, and has personal records of 37:30 in the 10,000m and 3:09 in the marathon. She was the first female in WI to coach a division I varsity high school boys cross country team.
