I am a K-5 music teacher in Southern MN. I work with students of all ability levels, including 3 self-contained Austism Spectrum classrooms and students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders. I have both my Bachelor of Science Teaching and Bachelor of Music degrees from Winona State University. I am currently a member of the National Association for Music Education and have been a part of this organization for 6 years.
I believe that students learn best by doing. Thus, I identify with the Kodály philosophy of music education. Students should prepare a concept by experiencing it prior to the concept being labeled. Students experience concepts through singing folk songs and playing games.
Summa Cum Laude - GPA 4.0 Dean’s List (9 consecutive semesters) edTPA Certificate of Distinction – Score of 62 Outstanding Student in Music Teaching (selected by the music department faculty)
I was born in Topeka, KS where I attended elementary school. I had a comprehensive elementary music education that included singing, movement, and playing instruments. I attended middle school and high school in Redwood Falls, MN where I had outstanding choral experiences. I earned both of my bachelors degrees from Winona State University in MN. Here I had the opportunity to participate in constant professional development through WSU's elementary workshop series, Minnesota Music Educators Mid-Winter Clinics, and American Choral Directors Regional and National conferences.
