As a registered dietitian, I work as a “traveling nutritionist” to teach healthy eating and physical fitness to students from 4th grade thru 12th grade. I work with students one-on-one and in large groups. When I am not teaching general nutrition to healthy students, I provide specialized nutrition counseling in teen pregnancy classes, newborn nutrition classes for young parents, and in small weight loss groups with pre-teens and teenagers.
My teaching style is aerobic. As I move, I emphasize the perks of healthy habits rather than focus on the negative effects of poor food choices and lack of exercise. I preach that there is no such thing as a bad food as long as moderation and variety are practiced. I encourage regular physical activity. I also practice everything that I preach.
Shining teacher moment: Every time I walk into the cafeteria and a student excitedly raises his/her hand to show me the healthy foods packed in their lunch. Yay!
I am a registered dietitian and an ACE certified group fitness instructor. I have a master’s degree in public health nutrition and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics.
I have 30+ years of experience eating food, and I love to eat foods that are nutritious and delicious (hence the name Miss “NUTR” a "LICIOUS”). Visit my website at http://missnutralicious.blogspot.com/ for more nutralicious materials!
