I have been teaching for over 13 years now. I have taught every grade from first through eighth. My first several years teaching were spent at a public, special education therapeutic day school. All of these students were diagnosed with either an emotional disability or had a mental health diagnosis. They all displayed plenty of behaviors giving me a great arsenal of tools as well as some pretty interesting stories! I have been teaching special education ever since that first experience! I have taught in an inclusive classroom with team teaching as well as done some remedial sub-separate work and taught in a self-contained. I am also a Wilson Reading certified trainer. Teaching reading has always been a passion of mine! I spent two years as a Reading Facilitator/Coach at a special education school. In addition, I teach online, graduate level courses! I expect success from my students by creating a challenging, exciting, and rewarding learning environment. My goal is always for students to love learning and be excited by it. As a result, students will achieve. Through good teaching of Common Core State Standards paired with remediation in order to achieve learning goals and continuous progress monitoring, I am able to tailor my lessons towards closing student achievement gaps. One key factor in my success is the relationships that I build with students. I truly believe that if a student feels supported, they will try their best for you! I am motivated by achievement. The best reward as a teacher is seeing the smile on the face of student who is proud of their learning achievements! To know I have played a role in that, motivates me as a teacher! Oh, and I believe that humor and sarcasm can go a long way! :)
